Abu Hurairah (RA) looked after the Masjid of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). He made it a regular habit to feed the stray cats. Gradually the number of cats around the Masjid increased. He loved to caress and play with them. Hence he got the name Abu Hurairah - Father (care taker) of kitten.

Some Shias call Abu Hurairah (RA) as the 'Paul* of Islam' for narrating around 5000** Ahadith because he spent only 3 years in the company of the Prophet (peace be upon him) and they accept them only if similar narrations are found elsewhere. The answer to this claim is that Abu Hurairah (RA) had an unfailing and excellent photographic memory, a miracle from Allah that was bestowed upon him after Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) prayed for him. Sahih Bukhari quotes,

"Narrated Abu Huraira: I said, ‘O Allah’s Apostle! (peace be upon him) I hear many narrations from you but I forget them.’ He (peace be upon him) said, ‘Spread your covering sheet.’ I spread my sheet and he moved both his hands as if scooping something and emptied them in the sheet and said, ‘Wrap it.’ I wrapped it round my body, and since then I have never forgotten a single Hadith."

Abu Huraira also helped pass and teach the religion of Islam on through narrating the traditions of the Prophet (peace be upon him) to the early Muslims.

And Allah, The Most High, Knows Best.

*Paul (Saul) towers as one of the all-time giants of Christianity who is said to have have experienced visions of the Prophet Jesus (AS). He travelled tirelessly through the ancient world, taking the message of his own version of Christianity and could debate with the most educated scholars of his day. Fourteen of the twenty-seven books in the New Testament have traditionally been attributed to Paul.

**of which around 1500 Hadiths are unique
